Proposed Ward Block Extension – Hospital Campus, Kottayam

The proposed ward block extension is a three-storey facility designed as a seamless addition to the hospital campus, aimed at enhancing inpatient care capacity and operational efficiency. Strategically located to connect with the existing circulation network, the new block introduces a clear spatial hierarchy across its floors, aligned with clinical requirements.

The ground floor of the new block is programmed with inpatient wards, nurse stations, toilets, and utility spaces. The layout ensures efficient workflows and supervision, with rooms arranged along double-loaded corridors. Each ward is designed to promote patient comfort and accessibility while maintaining privacy and functionality.

The first floor continues the ward functions with additional inpatient rooms and related support zones. Centralized nurse stations serve as the operational core on each level, facilitating patient monitoring and staff coordination.

On the second floor, the plan introduces more specialized care areas or overflow ward space, depending on operational needs. The design maintains consistency in structure and services, allowing flexibility in future use or adaptation.

Connectivity between all levels is ensured through strategically placed staircases and lift access points. The block is designed for smooth vertical and horizontal movement, minimizing bottlenecks in circulation.

This proposed extension strengthens the hospital’s inpatient infrastructure while respecting the logic and rhythm of the existing campus layout, supporting scalable, patient-centered care delivery.
