Residence in Kollad, Kottayam – A Traditional Kerala Home Designed for Togetherness

Nestled in the serene locality of Kollad, Kottayam, this 5936 sq.ft residence embodies the essence of traditional Kerala architecture while addressing the functional needs of a modern family. Although designed for a four-member household, the home’s spatial planning thoughtfully accommodates extended family gatherings and communal living.

The house features four spacious bedrooms with attached bathrooms, and two large halls—one on each floor—interconnected by wide hallways that enhance circulation and openness. The upper-level hall serves as a social hub for family activities, while the ground floor is designed with flexibility in mind. Here, operable partition walls allow the space to adapt easily into extra sleeping areas or a study, depending on the need.

Taking advantage of the site's natural terrain, both floors have separate vehicular access, providing convenience and privacy. A highlight of the residence is its first-floor roofed terrace, offering scenic views of the surrounding paddy fields. This terrace seamlessly extends into an open seating area, ideal for relaxation and outdoor conversations.

Adding to the functionality of the site is a 500 sq.ft outhouse, constructed using steel frames and lightweight panel boards. This compact structure includes a bedroom with attached bathroom, a kitchen, and a loft—perfect as a guest house or secondary living space.
